Grant Success: Education Systems, aspiration and learning in remote rural areas

This two year project investigates the processes through which schooling shapes young people’s aspirations, and how young people’s aspirations shape their engagement with schooling and the learning they achieve.  Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ’s Professor Nicola Ansell (Sociology) and Dr Peggy Froerer (Anthropology) are two of the researchers taking part in the Economic and Social Research Council/Department for International Development-funded collaborative research project.

Ethnographic research with children and young people will take place in remote rural areas of Lesotho, India and Laos. Researchers aim to provide insight into how education systems can develop effective policies and interventions that work with young people’s aspirations to enhance learning outcomes and address structural disadvantage.
