Flexible courses
At Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ, we understand that at the beginning, your interest in biomedical sciences may be very broad and perhaps you’re not ready to specialise yet, or you may even change your mind about your specialist area. For this reason, we have made our courses flexible. As you study through your degree, you can pick your own module options and tailor your course to fit your interests. You can even switch specialist pathways or take our general biomedical sciences degree in the second year – so there’s no need to feel pressurised to commit to a specialist area until after your first year.
Brilliant scientific facilities
From day one, you’ll start learning to use basic lab equipment and work your way up to more specialist forensic equipment throughout your degree. Our range of purpose-built labs feature advanced equipment for hands-on molecular biology, cell culture, microscopy, and genetics research. You'll benefit from access to laminar flow hoods, incubators, and various cell types in our tissue culture laboratory. Our microscope lab boasts 2D and 3D fluorescence microscopy and you can explore genetics using fruit flies in our dedicated fly laboratory. We also have qPCR machines, DNA sequencers, and cell sorters for the study of genetics and DNA.
Practical, real-world experience while you study
Opt for a placement year, and you'll graduate with a years' work experience already under your belt. All our undergraduate programmes offer placement opportunities, providing valuable experience to enhance your employability. Like some of our former students, you could spend a year working at some top companies such as Mars, Parexel and Astra Zeneca. Additionally, if you’re looking for industry experience a little further afield, there are chances to work abroad. Some of the opportunities our students have benefited from have included laboratory work in Sicily, positions at a cytogenetics firm near Milan, and roles with Bayer in Berlin.

We have a strong focus on developing you for your future career goals – with support ranging from employability modules focused on improving your CV and interview skills, to meeting potential employers at our annual Biomedical Sciences Careers Fair, where you’ll be able to network with some of the biggest industry names, such as GlaxoSmithKline, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Parexel, Age UK and Royal Brompton Hospital NHS Foundation, among others.
