On Tuesday 17 October, Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ welcomed industry leaders to join celebrations marking ten years of Civil Engineering and to launch the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Chaired by Professor Stefaan Simons, Dean of the College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences – the celebration began with an opening speech by Professor Julia Buckingham, Vice Chancellor and President, who welcomed prestigious industry speakers, such as Nick Russel, Chair of the Joint Board of Moderators, and Dr Peter Bonfield OBE FREng, Chief Executive of the Building Research Establishment.
Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ students also spoke including one of the first cohort to one of the most recent graduates, as well as from students returning from placements and postgraduates.
Our new Head of Department, Professor Mizi Fan gave an insight into how Civil Engineering has progressed over the past decade, while detailing the important developments in both teaching, learning, research and innovations that have occurred since.
Over 160 people attended and saw the ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the launch of the new Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and enjoy lunch alongside presentations of excellent research projects and research outcomes from the Department.
