30 third-year students took part in the launch of Film and TV’s Employability Bootcamp on 24th and 25th of October. Over two days they enjoyed workshops on freelancing, forming your own limited company, working internationally, how to shape a successful career and how to write a killer job application.
Guest speakers included Eleanor Dawson from the Writers Guild of Great Britain, who explained how to identify and protect copywright in your own written work and how to structure a legally sound creative collaboration.
Students also found out about two Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ creative career initiatives: the Dragon’s Den style READY programme, developed by Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ in partnership with The UN Refugee Agency and The UN Development Programme; and Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ’s own Innovation Hub, which offers students the chance to win up to £10,000 of start-up funding.
Here’s what some of the students thought about the event.
“The session on the financial side of self-employment was absolutely incredible. And scrutinising CVs and cover letters really helped to understand what potential employers are looking for.” – Eren Oz
“So insightful! It’s made me consider freelancing, owning a business, international work, and the variety of career options which are open to me.” – Mahalia Hanson
“I loved learning about all the different opportunities I can have” – Dilara Ertem
“We were given so much information that I wouldn’t have otherwise known about. For example, how to rethink cover letters or how copyright law actually works. It was clear and easy to understand, also just fun and relaxed which was lovely.” – Jamie Walker
“I found it extremely useful and inspiring.” – Valentin Burwell
“My favourite part was certainly the CV and cover letter ‘clinic’ where we employed the perspective of an employer and looked over other students’ applications. It has given me some very important insight and perspective which will help me improve my own applications.” – Matei Bur
