The Department of Clinical Sciences at Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ has secured an Athena SWAN Bronze Award in recognition of the strength of the support for gender equality in the department.

The Athena SWAN Award is a national scheme which aims to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women.

Professor Priscilla Harries, Head of Clinical Sciences, commented: "This is excellent news; it demonstrates our commitment to providing a positive and inclusive working environment for all, and our determination to build on this central ethos."

Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ has been a Member Institution of the Athena SWAN Charter network since 2005, and last year was awarded the Bronze institutional-level Athena SWAN award for the second time. Clinical Sciences joins Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ's Departments of Life Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science in achieving the Bronze departmental award. All awards are valid for 3 years.

Dr Elizabeth McKay led the self-assessment team who submitted the application, supported by deputy lead Dr Nana Anokye, project manager Esther Bray and Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ's Athena SWAN coordinator Tamara Szucs. Also key were the workstream leads Sue Harry, Shafeena Anas, Dr Subhash Pokhrel and Natalie Jarrett.

The team will collect the department's award at a ceremony at Swansea University on 16 July.
