Dr Jane Hendy has taken up her appointment this week as the new Head of Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ Business School at Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ.
Dr Hendy, who joined the School last year, brings to the role significant experience in researching the management of healthcare services, and has previously held posts at University College London, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Imperial College Business School and Surrey Business School.
Dr Hendy consults and coordinates large-scale, high-impact policy initiatives for government, applying organisational theory to healthcare leadership and innovation, both nationally and internationally. She regularly sits on commissioning panels for national and international healthcare funding bodies.
Her research has encompassed transformations such as the delivery of telehealth and IT systems in healthcare, and she has been published five times in the British Medical Journal. The then Prime Minister David Cameron has mentioned Dr Hendy’s research in parliament, and it has been given as written evidence to the House of Commons Select Committee – as well as receiving global press attention.
“I am delighted to be able to lead the Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ Business School,” commented Dr Hendy. “The School has an illustrious heritage, and has acquired a strong position in international and national rankings. But we can always achieve much more, and I look forward to working with my staff to ensure that the School realises its potential.
“I am excited by the opportunity to build a world-leading interdisciplinary business school, where innovative ideas are put into practice to influence how the world does business.”
Before pursuing an academic career, Dr Hendy was a senior manager, consultant and advocate in the public sector.
Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ Business School is home to five internationally renowned research groups who practice ‘engaged scholarship’: their research drives forward global business and societal transformation, and the School puts this learning into practice – with original, relevant and impactful teaching that inspires their students to improve the world around them.
The School’s research performance is reflected by the most recent (2014) Research Excellence Framework, in which it was ranked 20th in the UK in terms of research intensity and 12th in terms of research power, from a total of over 100 UK business schools.
