Richmond Aid is a charity supporting and empowering individuals with disabilities and long-term health conditions living in Richmond borough. The organisation provides advice and information about services, promotes independent living, and campaigns on local and national issues that affect disabled people.
Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:
In this role, you will become a buddy to a young person with a disability in Richmond or Kingston Borough by traveling with them to activities in their local area and helping them to become independent in using transportation. As a BuddyUp volunteer, you will learn a set of skills such as personal growth, advocacy, time management, and inclusion.
Typical duties include:
- Forming a positive and supportive relationship with the individual with a disability, creating a sense of trust and companionship
- Participating in social, recreational, or community activities together, based on the interest and preferences of the individual
- Assisting in planning and organising activities, outings, or events that cater to the interest of your buddy
- Maintaining open and respectful communication with your buddy to understand their needs
Please note, this role requires a DBS check, a CV and the organisation would like you to commit to a minimum of 3 months.
