Dr Jayne Francis-Shama
Senior Lecturer (Academic Education) - Nursing

Mary Seacole 201

Summary

Jayne is a lecturer in pre-registration nursing and is the programme lead for the Registered Nurse degree. Jayne has a doctoral research focus on clinical leadership. Within her role as a nurse academic, Jayne has developed a framework of study aimed at enhancing leadership development amongst undergraduate student nurses. Following the implementation of this framework, Jayne investigated the student’s perception of leadership prior to qualifying and their understanding of leadership within a distributed model (Francis-Shama, 2016). Jayne found the study made several noteworthy contributions she has since taken forward for her research. Jayne's doctoral research investigated the challenges of leadership for Band 5 and 6 nurses at the point of care. She has developed a new model of leadership that proposes four elements - Resilience; Relevance; Education and Empowerment – that might be addressed in order to lessen the challenges of adopting leadership for Band 5 and 6 nurses
