Dr Meryl Dickinson
Divisional Lead (Interim) / Reader (Education) in Law

Elliott Jaques 061

Summary

Meryl Dickinson has been a member of Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ Law School since 2010, having began her journey at Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ as a PhD student and Graduate Teaching Assistant. Having completed her PhD in 2015, she spent some time away at Oxford Brookes before returning as a Lecturer (Education) in Law in 2017. She has since been promoted to Senior Lecturer, and in 2022 was appointed the Director of Teaching and Learning for Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ Law School.

In terms of reserach, Meryl began her career looking at the connections between law, state and religion. This soon expanded into elements of constitutional and ecclesiastical law, with an interdisciplinary connection with sociology, philosophy and at times theology. Religion, education and citizenship has also been a long-standing interest but more recently her work has turned to the student experience and pedagogical models. Only she is working on matters related to the awarding gap, compassionate leadership and pedagogy, student and staff mental health and burnout, and the cost of living crisis.

Meryl has experience in teaching a wide variety of subjects, especially core legal subjects including public law, contract law, land law, trusts, and tort law - for which she acts as module convener currently. She has also taught on company law, media law, and cultural heritage law. She is currently acting as Director of Teaching and Learning for Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ Law School, and also holds a position on a number of university strategy groups relating to the student experience.
