Research projects and collaborations: Relational Space - Partners in Co-creation

2023_03

Global Lives has been forging a unique and inspirational partnership with a Gallery+Forum in New York called Relational Space for several years now. Relational Space facilitates collaborative sessions between artists and scientists to co-create immersive 'Evidence-based Art': Immersive installations presented in relation to empirically supported narratives that promote transformational social change. Relational Space is especially focused on issues that promote justice and equity for disadvantaged/disabled populations and provide community education and growth.

Global Lives has been involved in two such projects with Relational Space. The most recent, Beyond Gender: the Future of Being Human brought together twelve international Scientists, Activists and Artists to examine the gender identity and individual gender experiences from both collective and personal perspectives. The reality is that attitudes about gender have become more polarised resulting in the strengthening of regressive, stereotypic viewpoints regarding non-conforming identities, domestic violence, reproductive autonomy, and moreover, gender roles, resources and rights.

Global Lives is incredibly proud to have played a small role in supported this very powerful co-curated immersive installation. We are grateful to Dr Leigh W. Jerome, the exec-director of Relational Space, for allowing us to continue to work together in confronting social inequalities across some of the most critical issues of our time in such a unique transdisciplinary way.
