Health and life sciences

For the REF 2021 health and life sciences panel, we submitted 112 researchers across two areas of study.

Seventy-eight of these were for the Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy Unit of Assessment, which benefited from 35 new posts since the last REF in 2014. Over the assessment period, our researchers have been awarded £16.4 million of grants –  a third higher than for the last REF, and involving the NHS, the Department for Health, the World Health Organization and UNICEF as key partners.

For the Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience Unit of Assessment, our researchers have worked with key partners ranging from Facebook to the Municipal Boards of Education and Support in Japan, as part of £1.2 million of awards for research at Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ and a further £3.1 million in awards for collaborative research with colleagues at other institutions.
