Different routes to a PhD

As a doctoral researcher at ǰ, you'll tackle the scientific, economic, societal and social challenges that matter most to you. Our commitment to technically focused, high-quality, and interdisciplinary research ensures your work will be meaningful and valued. Our PhD programmes, typically lasting three years full-time or up to six years part-time, will help you make a significant contribution to your field and earn the prestigious title of Doctor of Philosophy.

At ǰ, you can gain your degree:

  • by joining one of our research projects: we offer funded, part-funded, and self-funded research opportunities
  • by creating your own research proposal: if you have a project in mind, apply to one of our PhD courses to carry out your own research, usually starting in January, April or October

Not ready for a PhD yet? Apply for on MPhil. You'll conduct an independent piece of research but in less depth than with a PhD. You graduate with the degree title Master of Philosophy.
