Regents Canal and Victoria Park Bridge Inspections
I am Ellaine De Leon, I recently finished my MEng Civil Engineering with Sustainability degree at Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ. I have experience with water engineering within research as well as in industry during my placements but recently I have decided to choose a different career path and will join Laing O’Rourke as a Graduate Assistant Planner. The website link uploaded was for a bridge inspection assignment for my Infrastructure Management module which was a really fun assignment to complete where I have learned many transferrable skills which can be used within the industry. I have had a really good experience at Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ University with my course as well as with the different societies I have been in for the past four years and have built a good network so far. I hope to keep in touch with the University in the future. Attached is my if anyone would like to ask me any questions:
Bridge 1 is located in Regent’s Canal in London which was built in the early 19th Century during UK’s Industrial Revolution. The section of Regent’s Canal which holds the bridge was designed by John Nash and built in 1820 (Canal & River Trust, 2021) and was used as a transportation route for vessels from the sea to transfer cargo to barges within the canal and this hugely contributed to the UK’s economy at the time, replacing the need for a railway in that area. But soon after, the canal was no longer used for the transportation of materials as it was no longer an economical route for the owners. Now the canal is used for walking, cycling, boating and fishing in some areas. Bridge 1 used to be an arch bridge but was then renovated into a single span integral slab bridge.
