ISO 14001 is an internationally accepted standard that sets out the criteria for an environmental management system and can be certified to. It maps out a framework that a company or organisation can follow to set up an effective environmental management system. Designed for any type of organisation, regardless of its activity or sector, it can provide assurance to company management and employees as well as external stakeholders that environmental impact is being measured and improved. ISO 14001 belongs to the ISO 14000 family of environmental management standards and provides the framework to allow you to manage and implement your corporate responsibility, as well as legal or regulatory requirements.

This standard is applicable to any organisation that wishes to:

  • implement, maintain and improve an EMS
  • assure itself of its conformance with its own stated environmental policy
  • demonstrate conformance
  • ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations
  • seek certification of its EMS by an authorised external certification body
  • make a self-determination of conformance
