Our commitment to Public Engagement

We have always taken seriously our commitment to engaging with the public; indeed it is enshrined in our Royal Charter and in our signing of the

Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ has always been an institution firmly engaged with the wider world. Whether by producing graduates ready for their future careers, well equipped for the world of work, or by pursuing research addressing major societal challenges, we ensure that our academic activity benefits society.

Professor Geoff Rodgers, Vice-Provost Research

There is no denying that our direct impact as an employer and buyer of services is significant in its own right, contributing over £750m to the UK economy, but what is less often understood is the contribution Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ makes to social and cultural activities and the wellbeing of society. Whether we are inspiring local children to aspire to University; bringing innovative solutions to society’s challenges through applied research or contributing to civic society through volunteering our time and expertise; Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ is at the heart of the community.

We recognise that as a public body it is our responsibility to communicate with the wider world about our work. We must also make the University an accessible place, both in terms of the facilities we can offer and to encourage a greater understanding of the exciting things that happen here.

True Public Engagement is a two-way process where the public and the University can come together for the benefit of  society, be that locally, regionally or globally, through contributing to our research and engaging in a wider dialogue which can help shape what we do.

We invite you to join us in turning our commitment to Public Engagement into everyday reality.
