Clinical placements
Your clinical placements will be located in a range of hospitals, general practices and community health settings. You will have access to a diverse patient population across Greater London and the South East of England. This patient exposure will provide you with the depth and breadth of experience needed to become a knowledgeable and competent junior doctor.
Secondary Care and Mental Health clinical placements are available in local hospitals – some of which are internationally renowned. Here you will be taught by senior clinicians and have the opportunity to explore different specialties, from cardiology to surgery, general practice to paediatrics and more.
In addition, you will have a small number of clinical placements in the community and continuous rotations in Primary Care.
Clinical partners
When it comes to student training, our partner hospitals have extensive experience. Because the hospitals collaborate closely with nearby universities, you may encounter medical students from Oxford, Imperial, UCL, St George's, or Southampton while on placement.
West London NHS Trust
West London NHS Trust is one of the most diverse providers of mental health, community and social care in the UK. 3,982 staff care for people in hospital and in the community, helping them to recover and go on to lead full and productive lives.
The Trust provides care and treatment for more than 800,000 people living in the London boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow, delivering services in the community (at home, in GP surgeries and care homes), hospital, specialist clinics and forensic (secure) units.
The national, specialist and forensic services include:
- Medium secure services on the in Ealing
- Services for people with complex and severe personality disorder at the in Richmond
- High secure services at in Berkshire.

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
The Trust provides high quality clinical services to over half a million patients a year, including over 94,000 Emergency Department attendances and employs over 3,500 staff.
The services are provided from both Hillingdon Hospital and Mount Vernon Hospital.
Hillingdon Hospital, very close to Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ and Heathrow Airport, is the only acute hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services.
Mount Vernon Hospital located in Rickmansworth has a modern Diagnostic and Treatment Centre. With its spacious and contemporary design, the Mount Vernon Treatment Centre constitutes a new two-storey building and the existing Princess Christian Unit. The new buildings house four state-of-the-art operating theatres to carry out elective surgery plus outpatient services.

Frimley Health Foundation Trust
Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust provides NHS hospital services for around 900,000 people across Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey and south Buckinghamshire.
As well as delivering excellent general hospital services to local people, the Trust provides specialist heart attack, vascular, stroke, spinal, cystic fibrosis and plastic surgery services across a much wider area.
There are three main hospitals - Frimley Park in Frimley near Camberley, Heatherwood in Ascot and Wexham Park near Slough.

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust

Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals
Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals is one of the leading specialist heart and lung centres in Europe. In February 2021, Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals became part of the internationally renowned .
The Trust works from two main sites - Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea, West London and Harefield Hospital near Uxbridge. Their clinicians and allied health professionals are known throughout the world for their expertise, standard of care and research success.
The specialist hospitals provide treatment for people with heart and lung disease, including rare and complex conditions. The Trust carries out some of the most complicated surgery, and offer some of the most sophisticated treatment that is available anywhere in the world.
Achievements include:
- Pioneered intricate heart surgery for new born infants born with a congenital heart disease
- Performed the first successful heart and lung transplant in Britain
- Implanted the first coronary stent
- The use of Total Artificial Hearts and Ventricular Assist Devices.

West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals Trust
West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust has realised its 'teaching hospital' ambition and is now legally called West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust provides acute healthcare services to a core catchment population of approximately half a million people living in west Hertfordshire and the surrounding area. The trust also provides a range of more specialist services to a wider population, serving residents of North London, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and East Hertfordshire. The trust has three main sites – Watford General Hospital, St. Alban’s Hospital and Hemel Hampstead hospital. The main teaching site for medical students will be at Watford Hospital.

Primary Care
During Phase 1 (years 1 and 2), you will be attached to a local primary care General Practice, with teaching sessions in the same Practice every 2 weeks from the very first term. You will learn about the system of healthcare in the UK, experience multi-professional teamwork, develop foundational skills in doctor-patient communication and contribute to community health projects
Primary and Secondary Care
During Phase 2 and 3 (years 3, 4 and 5) you will spend the majority of each academic year on placements, rotating through our different clinical partner organisations. You will not just be observing, you will also have the opportunity to apply your clinical knowledge to the care of patients, under the supervision of clinician educators – doctors from different specialty backgrounds who also have a teaching role for Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ medical students. The clinical placements will be in both primary care and in our affiliated NHS Trusts. These NHS Trusts include many outstanding hospitals providing outpatient and inpatient care to patients with a wide range of health conditions, and also community services delivering care close to home, and in specialty areas including mental health.
Each of our partner NHS Trusts will have a Director of Undergraduate Education appointed by Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ Medical School to ensure Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ medical students have a high-quality and responsive student experience when on placements.
