Other funders' open access and data policies

The number of funders adopting policies requiring open access for publications arising from their research has grown exponentially over the last decade, with their growth further spurred by the implementation of Plan S in January 2021.

It's increasingly likely that if your research is funded, that you may be expected to comply with the funder's requirements for open access as a condition of award.  Typically, full details will be provided along with your award and policies are published on the funder's website. These details are kept up to date in some useful, searchable resources detailed below.

  • The Registry of Open Access Repository Mandates and Policies (ROARMAP) is a searchable international registry charting the growth of open access mandates and policies adopted by universities, research institutions and research funders that require or request their researchers to provide open access to their peer-reviewed research article output.
  • SHERPA Juliet is a searchable database and single focal point of up-to-date information concerning funders’ policies and their requirements on open access, publication and data archiving.
