Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ’s Centre for Law, Economics, and Finance invites you to its first annual conference The “Old” and “New” Private Security Industry and the Public/Private Nexus.
This event is free and open to the public. The conference will take place in a hybrid format: on campus in Eastern Gateway room 003A, and online, via Teams.
Private protection is a flourishing business in the UK and around the world. The number of private security officers is now bigger than the number of public police officers in the majority of developed countries. In cyberspace, there has been an even more impressive growth, with several private actors providing security services worth billions of pounds. This conference aims at bringing together experts from different disciplines to discuss the latest developments related to private security and its nexus with the public sector.
Among the others, the conference will explore the following questions:
- What is the relationship between the public and private security sectors?
- How does the government affect investment in private security?
- What is the relationship between the traditional and the cyber-private security sector?
- How big are the traditional and new private security sectors?
- What are the most pressing issues in terms of regulation for the sector in the UK?
