DBS Checks
Some volunteering opportunities we advertise require Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.
Most of the opportunities we advertise state a DBS check is needed in the description but sometimes the organisation will tell you themselves that you need one.
As a Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ student the University can organise your DBS check for you, with no cost to yourself. However this can be quite a long process that requires some paperwork. We have broken the process into simple steps for you.
DBS Check Process
- Apply for your volunteering opportunity online
- Once we have received your application, we will get you in touch with the charity/organisation
- If the charity/organisation do not have their own DBS check process, Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ Volunteers can provide one for you free of charge. Please let us know if you require a DBS check so we can notify the DBS team.
- Visit the Admissions Office, in Bishop Complex lower ground level room 004. They are open Monday to Friday from 9.15am -3pm Please bring three pieces of with you.
- Once your ID has been checked, you will be sent instruction for completing the online application by email. The application is completed online and takes around 10 minutes. You will be asked to provide your address history and to verify the details on your chosen ID documents.
- When your DBS check is complete, you will receive your certificate in the post. This process normally takes up to 3 weeks. If you do not receive your DBS certificate within this time period you must contact the DBS on +44(0)870 9090822 and ask them to resend it to you.
- Please note that the University no longer receive a copy of your DBS certificate so you must keep it safe as you will need to show it to your project leader.
