Miss Doyin Sonibare
PhD Student

Summary

Hello

My name is Adedoyin Sandra Sonibare but everyone calls me Doyin. I am a Doctoral Researcher in the department of Health and Life Sciences, studying health inequalities with a particular focus on the experiences of Black sickle cell patients in the UK. Additionally, I have a background in IT helping organisations utilise data and analytic solutions to bring about digital transformation. I believe data is the key to unlocking insights and highlighting areas for improvement, which is why I look forward to collecting primary data over the next few years.

In the summer of 2020, I completed a Master of Science degree in Global Public Health at Queen Mary University of London. The results of my MSc dissertation emphasised SCD is a massively under-researched topic in the UK, with limited focus on Black patients’ experiences of dealing with sickle cell crises. I plan to produce fundamental research to increase sickle cell awareness and influence health policies affecting marginalised communities.

Outside of academia, I'm also passionate about young people and personal development. As an amabassador of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, I support the charities fundraising initiatives and delivered a tribute at .
