EdD Student

Summary

Biography– Marique Daugherty-Burke

I am Marique Daugherty-Burke, an inspirational and innovative educator whose passion has allowed me the opportunity to gain local and international experience in education.

Originally, a Language and Literacy Specialist in Jamaica, I am currently an Assistant Principal in a Multi Academy Trust in West London and now look forward to further professional progressions overtime.

I hold a Bachelor degree in English Language and Literacy then further studied Literacy in the Masters of Education Program. Literacy has been my long-standing passion but over the last three years while being in leadership, there has been an increased interest in researching system reform and teacher development to further result in school improvement.

I have keenly observed the use of Authentic Methodologies in teaching and learning overtime. Giving students an authentic learning experience so they may be prepared to become great contributors within society is the very belief that my career was built on. As an educator over a seven year duration, my main interest lies in providing meaningful learning exposure for students so they can function in the real world.

My teaching experience lies only in the secondary phase thus far, where I have taught for two (2) years in traditional schools as well as alternative provisions in Jamaica and five years in a Studio College here in Hillingdon.

My research experience includes using ‘Authentic Materials to Promote Speech and Language in Jamaica’ (2014). In 2018, I also launched a ‘Dialogue Journaling Program’ which improved the technical accuracy of KS4 students in writing.

Additionally, I launched action research on ‘Blogging to Improve Boys’ Writing Fluency’ (2016) for which I was awarded the ‘Erwin Zolt Digital Literacy Game Changer Award.

My professional affiliations include being a member of the International Literacy Association where I present yearly at their conferences. My most recent CPD journey (2017 and 2019) includes the NPQML and NPQSL courses by The University College of London (UCL)

It is with great enthusiasm that I pursue this Doctor of Education, that I may further learn, research and impart to the world of educators.
