Summary
I am a professional certified accountant with a 20-year career, teaching accounting in Universities, underpinned by a year teaching in Further Education, during which time I was able to develop the basic pedagogic techniques that have developed and informed my subsequent teaching. My long and varied experience has enabled me to develop innovative approaches to teaching in order to illustrate abstract concepts across the learning spectrum, on both academic and professional courses.
In 2006 I developed an interest in academic research and its role in informing work based practice. Therefore in 2006 I embarked on a research exercise to determine ‘selective and biased speech acts in corporate governance communication’. More recently I have been involved in undertaking action research into the use of video in inclusive teaching.
After developing close links with the Chartered Institute of Credit Management (CICM) and in response to demands from industry, I led a small team that designed, developed and managed a new degree in Credit Management.
I have undertaken many examination and moderation positions during my career, in particular as Examiner for a new module for the CICM’s professional programme (Financial Analysis).
I am a member of the British Accounting & Finance Association (BAFA) and undertake continuing professional development as required by my professional body, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
