Psychology: grow your understanding of people, mind and behaviour
Since the 1960s, Psychology at Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ has been producing world-leading research that benefits society. Our courses offer a rich combination of study in fundamental topics, together with clinical and other real-world applications.
Inspirational teaching
Our academic team are actively involved in a variety of research projects carried out within clinical (NHS) and non-clinical (laboratory, private sector) settings. This feeds directly into our research-led course content, to give you an up-to-date, high-quality learning experience. Our goal is to provide you with a comprehensive skill set and valuable work experiences.
British Psychological Society accreditation
Both our undergraduate degrees are accredited by the (BPS) - the representative body for psychologists in the UK. If you choose to go onto further study in psychology, many BPS accredited postgraduate and doctoral programmes also require that you’re eligible for graduate membership of the society.
Brilliant industry-grade facilities
At Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ, we want you to experience as much as you can of what it’s like to work in the field. During your course, you’ll get to practise and develop your skills with our wide-range of laboratory and technical facilities, which include a dedicated MRI scanner, an EEG (electroencephalography) lab, portable near-infrared spectroscopy equipment, transcranial magnetic stimulation labs, and thermal imaging cameras. We also have psychophysics, eye tracking and information technology resources.
You’ll benefit from Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ’s Combined Universities Brain Imaging Centre (CUBIC) membership, where we jointly own and operate a 3T Siemens MAGNETOM TIM Trio MRI scanner with three other universities. This advanced imaging system is housed in a dedicated laboratory suite and is overseen by a skilled MRI technician for optimal functionality.
Placement opportunities that stand out from the crowd
A psychology degree with a work placement is a great start to your CV. But a degree with two placements? That’s going to stand out to potential employers. Which is why we give you the option to carry out two six-month placements; one between your first and second year, and another between your second and third year. This means you’ll be able to experience two different work settings - ideal if you’re not sure which area you’d like to specialise in when you graduate. We also offer the traditional one-year placement between years two and three, which you can choose if you’d prefer.
Award-winning support to find your placement
A dedicated placement tutor from our award-winning Professional Development Centre will work with you to help you secure your work placements. These could be in a school, hospital, prison or as part of a research team. Previous students have worked in clinical psychology at St George’s Hospital; the Institute of Psychiatry; community programmes for vulnerable groups such as Hillingdon and Ealing Victim Support and Royal Free Hospital. Some have also worked on research in psychology at medical schools across London.
Setting you up for future success
Graduate with a degree in psychology from us, and you’ll qualify for membership of the British Psychological Society – a mark of quality and an essential entry qualification for postgraduate professional training in psychology to practise as a health professional. It’s also your first step to becoming a chartered psychologist.
Your degree is highly valued by employers across the industry and provides opportunities to work in a range of roles such as assistant psychologist, forensic psychologist, health and wellbeing project officer, lecturer, social therapist, sport and exercise psychologist and roles within an education setting, HR, marketing, social work and branding. Alternatively, if you’re looking to further your education or want to specialise in a particular area, Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ offers master's programmes that specialise in fields such as culture and evolution, and neuroscience.
