Cardiovascular diseases
Cardiovascular disease is a general term for conditions affecting the heart or blood vessels. This includes conditions that are inherited from birth or those that develop throughout the lifetime of an adult, such as coronary heart disease, angina, heart attack, hypertension, stroke and vascular dementia. In the UK alone, there are around 7.6 million people living with heart and circulatory diseases and cardiovascular diseases are responsible for 25% of all UK deaths.
In the CIRTM we aim to better understand, diagnose and treat heart and circulatory disease through our cutting-edge research and collaborations with other research-intensive institutions both within the UK and Internationally.
