Advancing AACN’s Federal Policy Agenda with the New Administration

Since his inauguration on January 20, 2025, President Trump and his administration have already taken dozens of executive actions. AACN’s government affairs and policy staff are diligently working to assess the impact of these actions on academic nursing, including their effects on programs supporting nursing education, research, and practice, including Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development programs and the National Institute of Nursing Research. Notably, the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) issued a temporarily pausing all activities related to obligation or disbursement of many federal grant, loan, and financial assistance programs. After being temporarily blocked by a federal judge on January 28, this memo has been by OMB as of this afternoon. While the OMB memo has been rescinded, the White House has signaled that the spending freeze of programs implicated by the President’s executive orders will remain in effect. As we analyze existing and future executive actions, Ã÷ÐÇ°ËØÔ is working directly with federal policymakers and collaborating organizations to continue advancing our policy agenda. We will continue updating member deans, faculty, and students with pertinent information on federal policy changes that may impact those pursuing federal support and research funding.
