Seeking Member Input: Defining Scholarship for Academic Nursing Position Statement



In July 2016, the AACN Task Force charged with revitalizing the definition of scholarship for academic nursing position statement began their work. The Board requested they evaluate: 1) the , in light of the 2016 report on ; 2) propose a definition of scholarship as related to education, research, and practice; 3) differentiate how scholarship might be operationalized by nurses prepared in research-focused and practice-focused doctorates; 4) consider contemporary issues around tenure;  and 5) describe the integration of scholarship across institutional missions, and how scholarship is promoted.ÌýÌý


Chaired by Dr. Robin Newhouse, Dean and Distinguished Professor, School of Nursing, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, the Task Force is now seeking member input on the revised position statement before it is presented to the AACN Board in January 2018 for review and a full membership vote at the (formerly Spring Annual Meeting) in March 2018.
